What if the researcher already has an ORCID record and registers a new one?

ORCID has a depreciation process to merge duplicate records created for one individual. This process keeps both ORCID iDs in the registry, and depreciates the duplicate ORCID record so it serves only as a pointer to the main ORCID iD.

Researchers can merge accounts if they still know the sign-in details (email address and password) for both accounts. Otherwise they can contact us to request our assistance in merging the duplicates.
