From the PMID each metadata item can be imported into its own field and to the proper db table. Effective early next year, PubMed will have an ORCID ID field available for each author record. For authors with IDs, ORCHID identifiers will be a part of the article metadata downloaded.

It should also be possible to get PMID and PMCID where available for entries already in ORCID. These should then be displayed as hyperlinks to PubMed/PubMedCentral. A related trivial point, I think the "DOI: ..." text should be hyperlinked to "http://dx.doi.org/...", as well as or instead of the icon that links to full text.

Tagging guidelines for this are currently unclear. PMC says they would want ORICDs tagged as follows: " is the way we would prefer to have an ORCID or other contributor identifier tagged." PubMed seems to want this: "The is an element in the Abstract submission XML for PubMed, not PMC," and highwire are advocating using this: "Content XML will be e.g. " It would be great to supply a set of tagged examples, and get everyone to impliment the standard the same way.

0000-0002-4510-0385 - http://jats.nlm.nih.gov/publishing/tag-library/1.0/?attr=contrib-id-type specifically mentions ORCID (not sure about capitalisation).

It would be very helpful in we could search PubMed from our ORCID page, click on those papers that are ours, and automatically have them migrate to our ORCID bibliography.

Kazmi, you can add works from EPMC to ORCID at https://europepmc.org/orcid/import or by selecting Europe Pub Med Central from the search and link options when you are logged into your ORCID record.

The functionality I want wouldn't require collaboration with Pubmed, just a simple interface that allows you to for example provide a list of PMIDs so you can automatically add them to your ORCID list of publications. Why is this not implemented yet?

Thank you for submitting your idea to improve the ORCID Registry.

The automatic tools to add information to your ORCID record has been built in partnership between ORCID and the provider of the other tool.

At this time NIH has not worked with ORCID to create a tool like this for PubMed. However their European partner, Europe PubMed Central has. Europe PubMed Central includes articles from PubMed -- see more about their database at https://europepmc.org/About

In the meantime, if a PubMed integration is something that you would like to see in addition to Europe PubMed Central, then let them know!

    Warm regards,
    ORCID Community Team
