The modal window that pops up to manually enter details is extremely frustrating to use. The biggest issue is that you lose everything you've typed if you inadvertently click outside the box, which you are likely to do because the institution lookup drop-down is so large it is hard to close without clicking off the entire window. IIt just happened to me four times trying to setup my records. A simple fix would be to either use a whole page as suggested by others or just provide an X to close the popup rather than having it close when you click outside the window.

I did (though I was surprised not to see PubMed). The issue I had was entering education and employment. Looks like those must be entered manually. Another solution would be to disable the drop-down look-ups entirely, since virtually no one needs them to enter their institution or employer correctly.

Thanks for your suggestion to improve the ORCID Registry. We are sorry to hear that you are having issues with the manual works entry form.

We recommend that you use the Search and Links wizards to add works in order to avoid any potential issues related to manual data entry and ensure that an identifier is linked to the work. Identifiers are used to group works on the ORCID record and are read by systems that connect with ORCID in order to get full metadata about the work.

We would like to improve the manual entry forms in our future cycles and are therefore marking this iDea as planned. We'll update the iDea with more information as we begin development.

    Warm regards,
    ORCID Community Team
