    Hi,

Thanks for the suggestion, we'd love to build a connection with LinkedIn too. But, as I'm sure you saw in the reply to the other iDeas you mentioned, linking with other systems to either push or pull data is not something ORCID can do unilaterally. Systems integration requires that we establish a partnership with the other organization. If we're able to set up a partnership with LinkedIn we can pursue this, but until then we don't have a way to facilitate connecting the two systems.

    Best,
    -Catalina

Has anything else came out of this? I've registered my ID but not had a burning need to spend time cutting and pasting everything, as that will force me in turn to rewrite the CV that is a rather unpleasant task ahead !

Hi, We haven't had any contact with LinkedIn to try and complete this. However there are a number of other tools to let you import information to your record so you don't need to copy and paste. See http://support.orcid.org/knowledgebase/articles/188278-import-works-website-user

That's not true, you can use their API https://developer.linkedin.com/ without the need for a special partnership.

Thank you for your comment, Simon Perdrisat. Access to LinkedIn's API will not allow the requested action in the original message, namely, that users be able to connect to LinkedIn and then send their data from LinkedIn to ORCID. The way that ORCID works is that organizations create applications which connect to the ORCID Registry via the ORCID API, and post data from their system to ORCID records after receiving permission from ORCID users to do so. The suggested workflow in the original message would require that LinkedIn build a connection with the ORCID Member API which can do the following: 1. Send researchers to a customized link with LinkedIn's unique API client ID and the permissions requested (e.g. updating activities section of ORCID record); 2. Store the researchers' ORCID iD and the access token which will allow LinkedIn to update the ORCID record on the researcher's behalf; 3. Post data to ORCID records in the ORCID message schema, using API calls which include both the user's ORCID iD and the corresponding access token. Once the above is done, the data is listed specifically as being sourced from LinkedIn, and LinkedIn is responsible for the upkeep of that data. The researcher can set the visibility of the data, or choose to delete it. If you are interested in further information about how other systems work with ORCID to post data to ORCID records or pull data from ORCID records to add to their systems, please see our API documentation: https://members.orcid.org/api Warm regards, ORCID Community Team
