    Thanks for the suggestion, but we want to keep ORCID urls as a unique identifier that does not change. By leaving names out of ORCID identifiers, the URL won't become outdated if you change your name and won't confuse anyone if there is another researcher who uses the handle mmeadows on another system. ORCID is about ensuring persistent unique identifiers and as part of that we want to keep our URLs as a sixteen digit identifier than never changes.

    Would you be willing to reconsider this? It is a feature that I would very much appreciate and that would allow for consistent identification across platforms. It could be as simple as allowing that user-selected URL to redirect to the 16 digit url.
