    Thank you for your suggestion. Presently search via the ORCID website and public API is available for only the biographical sections of the ORCID record. Could you give us more information about what areas of funding you would expect to be searched? That said, ORCID is not a social networking service, and we do not ask that researchers keep their ORCID records fully populated with publicly-facing distinguishing data -- though it is great if a researcher wishes to do that and we support them doing so. We help researchers connect their ORCID iDs by signing into their ORCID account after being linked from another system. Then data is exchanged via the ORCID API, giving the system the researcher's ORCID iD. These validated connections allow machine-to-machine exchanges of data, reducing data entry errors and mistaken identification. Warm regards, ORCID Community Engagement and Support

    One comment received by email: I was thinking it would be nice to search for people currently in my university/ possible collaborators. Not for social purposes, but to identify how many people here have orcids and who we could reach out to.

    One comment received by email: There are a couple of searches I would like to be able to perform: 1) A search by affiliation This would likely require institution names to be standardized in your database, i.e. Woods Hole Oceanographic Institution and WHOI refer to the same place (similar to Web of Science Organization-Enhanced). The results would need to be filtered, i.e. current affiliation vs past affiliation. 2) I would like to be able to enter a boolean search that consists of the author's last name and the institution s/he has been affiliated with; with filtering as above. 3) Search results (regardless of query) should sort by: last_name > first_name (a to z, and z to a) 4) Search results should be exportable to a variety of formats, i.e. excel

    Thank you again for your suggestion.

    We're going to mark this idea as completed as we've increased the number of searchable fields with the 2.0 version of the ORCID API search. (Anyone can use the Public API to search the ORCID Registry.) Specific new sections added include:

    * Search by affiliation organization (based on name and Ringgold ID: http://ido.ringgold.com )
    * Search by funding agency (based on name and FundRef ID: http://ftp.crossref.org/fundref/index.html )
    * Search by grant number

    For more, see our tutorial on searching using the ORCID API: https://members.orcid.org/api/tutorial/search-orcid-registry

    If you'd like to suggest improvements for the basic and advanced search on the ORCID user interface, please add your thoughts and suggestions to "Improve Search Options" at https://support.orcid.org/forums/175591/suggestions/7101297

    Warm regards,
    ORCID Community Team
