Researcher control of their record is a core ORCID principle. This means that individuals manage their own ORCID record and the connections between it and their works and affiliations. They decide whether to register, when to use their identifier, and what information to connect to their record.
Individuals can grant permission to ORCID member organizations to read their ORCID record and/or add information on their contributions and affiliations. We suggest that organizations involve researchers in this curation process by creating Search and Link wizards to content databases.
Organizations can also use the ORCID API to obtain public information to assist with their de-duplication efforts.
