What does a record summary contain?
Record summaries make it quick and easy to understand what an ORCID record contains. They highlight key information and display a count of how many works, peer reviews, and funding items.
You can view a record's summary by clicking on > Show record summary on the right side of the record's header.
The information shown depends on the public data found within the users ORCID record. Private information will not be shown or included in the counts. The following items may be displayed:
- Name or published/credit name – if the record has a published/credit name then this will be displayed, otherwise the given and family names will be shown.
- ORCID iD
- Affiliations – the first three employment items only and are shown in chronological order from newest to oldest.
- Organization name with a link to the affiliation url
- Role
- Start and end dates
- Email domains - the verified professional email domains that are publicly available on the user's ORCID record plus the email verification date (if verified after 28th October 2024)
- Key Dates – the date the record was created and the date the record was last updated
- Works – a count of validated works and self-asserted works
- Peer reviews – a count of validated peer review items. (note that this will only show a count of validated items as users are not able to manually add peer review to their records)
- Funding – a count of validated funding and self-asserted funding items
- Research resources - a count of validated research resource items.
- Professional activities – the three most recent Membership, Service, Invited Positions and Distinction items. These are displayed in chronological order from newest to oldest.
- Education and qualifications - the three most recent Education and Qualification items
- Other identifiers – other identifiers that have been connected with the user’s ORCID iD. For example, Scopus Author ID, ISNI or ResearcherID
What is the difference between validated and self-asserted items?
We count validated and self-asserted items separately. Validated items are those added by a trusted ORCID member organization (e.g. a publisher, funder or research institution). Self-asserted items are those that have been manually added to the record by the record owner.
- Validated – Added by a trusted ORCID member organization
- Self-asserted – Added directly by the user
