Store institutional affiliation after a user logs in via their institutional credentials (after user confirmed it is OK for ORCID to do it)
When using the new login by institution feature, if a user successfully logs in then capture the institutional affiliation (after user confirmed it is OK for ORCID to do so)
Thanks for your suggestion for improving the ORCID Registry. Now that signing in with your institutional credentials is an ORCID feature (see: http://orcid.org/blog/2016/05/21/what-was-my-password-again and https://members.orcid.org/api/integrate/institution-sign-in ), we are working with institutions who have ORCID integrations to implement this process, something that we’re calling “institutional connect via IdP” (this name may change).
What happens is that, once you sign in using your institutional credentials, the institution will a) request permission to update your record; and b) update your ORCID record with your institutional affiliation.

For those institutions who may be interested, you can find information at: https://members.orcid.org/api/integrate/institutional-connect
Slides and recordings from a related webinar on how this feature works are available at:
Let us know if you’re a member of a supported federation (eduGAIN, SURFconext) and have an ORCID integration and would like to test this feature.
