There is no link to the US Patent Office
There should be an automatic interface with the US Patent Office and/or WIPO to allow researchers who hold patents to list those as published works. Patents issued and applications are equivalent in many cases to papers published in scholarly journals. Currently, patents must be entered manually.
Just wanted to give an update about entering patents: We now have a member integration, the Lens http://lens.org , which allows researchers and inventors to export their patents to their ORCID record. Coming soon will be a Search & Link wizard that will allow the process to be started from the ORCID record itself.
You can read more about the Lens on our blog:

ORCID Community Engagement and Support
Thanks for submitting your idea to improve the ORCID Registry. We agree that integration with other databases such as the US Patent Office is important.
However, integrating with another system requires a partnership; it is not something ORCID can do on its own. If you know who we can contact at the Patent Office to start this project please let us know and we can reach out to them.
